A small park at the base of the Rift Valley escarpment consisting of a massive but shallow soda lake at the foot of the Great Rift Valley’s Western escarpment. Offers breathtaking views and a large variety of habitats.
The lake is renowned for its tranquility and natural beauty, making it a popular destination for nature lovers and birdwatchers. Activities like canoeing, birdwatching, and nature walks are common around the lake, offering visitors a chance to immerse themselves in the serenity of the area while enjoying the diverse wildlife and stunning views.
Lake Momella is surrounded by lush vegetation and is home to a variety of wildlife, including hippos and a multitude of bird species. Canoeing allows visitors to explore the lake’s tranquil waters up close, offering a unique perspective on the park’s natural beauty.
Canoeing allows visitors to paddle through the calm waters, surrounded by lush greenery and the occasional sighting of birds and other wildlife. It’s a relaxing activity suitable for all skill levels, providing an opportunity to connect with nature and enjoy the serene atmosphere of the lake.
The hot springs themselves are a natural wonder, with water bubbling up from underground sources and forming several pools of varying depths. The water is mineral-rich and pleasantly warm, providing a perfect spot for swimming, relaxing, and soaking in the therapeutic benefits.
The Maasai came to this area 200 years ago and they have progressively chased the Barbaig who moved to the border of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, near the Lake Eyasi; in this way the Maasai remained the only ethnic group in this area.
The park boasts diverse vegetation, ranging from savannah to perpetual green forest. During your exploration, you might encounter giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, buffaloes, elephants, and, with a stroke of luck, lions gracefully reclining in the branches of trees.
Renowned for its congregating elephant families along the river, Tarangire is also home to giraffes, bushbucks, and hartebeests. Predators like lions and leopards are commonly spotted trailing these animals. What sets Tarangire apart is its exceptional biodiversity, boasting more breeding bird species than any other location on Earth.
The park has an incredible variety of fauna and flora, which cannot fail to impress. Hollywood also chose this region to film the movie “Hatari” in which Hardy Kruger starred alongside the legendary John Wayne.
