History-Making Climb: First Woman Ascends Mt. Kilimanjaro

Adventurer and mountaineer Vanessa O’Brien has made history as the first woman to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro in a single day. Her historic feat is even more impressive when considering the sheer distance and elevation of the summit. Standing at 5,895 meters (19,341 feet) above sea level, Mt. Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and one of the world’s Seven Summits.

She Did It!

Vanessa O’Brien achieved her goal of becoming the first woman to summit Mt. Kilimanjaro in a single day. She embarked on the journey at 6:30am at the base of the mountain and reached the summit at 6:04pm, a total of 11 hours and 34 minutes. Along with being the first woman to do so, she also set a new speed record for the fastest ascent of the mountain.

O’Brien was not alone on her expedition. She was joined by her husband, a team of eight Sherpa guides, and two cameramen who documented the journey. Her team provided valuable support in the most challenging sections of the climb, and helped her reach the summit safely.

O’Brien’s experience on the mountain was a life-changing one. Despite the physical and mental strain of the climb, she described it as "a journey of enlightenment". She hopes that her success will inspire more women to get out of their comfort zone and take on new challenges.
