Yisrael Kristal was born in Poland in 1908 and lived through two World Wars. He has survived the Holocaust, survived concentration camps, and witnessed the struggles of the 20th century. Despite all these hardships, the resilient man was determined to make his mark in the world and decided to take on the challenge of mountaineering.
In November 2017, Kristal and his team of 14 other climbers set off on their journey to Kilimanjaro. It was a grueling 11-day ascent to the summit, at an altitude of 19,341 feet. Despite many hardships, Kristal persevered and made it to the top – becoming the oldest man to ever reach the summit of Kilimanjaro!
